Having won the North Oxfordshire finals on 18th May, our Y9/8 girls football team progressed to the Y9 County Finals hosted by The Oxfordshire Academy on 24th May. This tournament included the 10 best schools teams in Oxfordshire. The tournament consisted of two pools; Wykham Park were in Pool 2 and played 4 games. They won 3 and lost 1 which meant they topped Pool 2 and went into the semi final.
The semi final was a closely fought match which ended 1-1 and went straight to penalties. The girls held their cool; scored all their penalties and saved one in order to progress to the final against The Oxford Academy.
Again, another close match with Sophie Gold scoring early. The Oxford Academy forward then equalised with a superb header. Three minutes left; up-stepped the captain, Olivia Smith and smashed the ball into the back of the net. Cool heads and amazing team spirit kept out the opposition for the remainder of the game. The referee blew the final whistle and there you have it…COUNTY CHAMPIONS 2022!!! and they absolutely deserve to be!
