Our Year 10 GCSE Geography students recently enjoyed a fantastic day carrying out fieldwork in Banbury as part of their preparation for Paper 3 of their AQA GCSE course and upcoming mock series.

Throughout the day, students worked in small groups to collect a range of primary data to investigate Banbury‘s quality of life for local residents. Using a variety of geographical fieldwork techniques, including environmental quality surveys, pedestrian counts, land use surveys, alongside collecting the rate of velocity from the river in Spiceball Park. Students gathered first-hand evidence to answer their enquiry questions.

The experience gave students the opportunity to apply classroom learning in a real-world setting, developing essential geographical skills such as data collection, observation, sampling and decision-making. They demonstrated excellent teamwork, resilience and professionalism throughout the day, engaging respectfully with members of the public and representing the school exceptionally well.

The data collected will now be analysed back in the classroom, where students will draw conclusions and evaluate the reliability of their methods, helping them prepare for the fieldwork questions in their GCSE examinations.

We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, maturity and positive attitude shown by our Year 10 geographers. It was a valuable and enjoyable learning experience that brought Geography to life beyond the classroom.
