This Wednesday, Dr Shires and Mrs Roberts took a small group of 30 students from Year 8 to experience the wonders of the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford! This was an opportunity for students to develop their understanding of the world that inspires the texts they have been studying in their literary heritage units, as well as develop some creative ideas for their upcoming descriptive writing unit.

The day was packed with exploration and learning as they were given the opportunity to take part in two expert-led workshops, using the paintings and sculptures as inspiration for their own writing before learning how to analyse artefacts and sources.

Students then wandered through galleries filled with ancient Egyptian artifacts, Roman coins, Greek pottery, and stunning works of art from across the world.

Students were particularly fascinated by the mummies and hieroglyphics, linking directly to their recent lessons on ancient civilizations.

The students were impeccable and were highly commended by the museum on their maturity, curiosity and politeness. It was a brilliant opportunity to step outside the classroom and see history and writing come alive – a day full of inspiration, curiosity and memorable moments!
