Academic year 2020-21
At Wykham Park our science course for years 7 and 8 sparks students’ curiosity in science, whilst gradually building the maths, literacy, practical, and enquiry skills needed for progression to AQA GCSE Science. Support and extension is provided to help students achieve and exceed in their science education.
What are we studying?
In term 1 will be focusing upon some of the fundamental ideas of science. We will be looking at cells, organ systems, atoms and where our energy comes from as well as developing our scientific practical skills.
This term we will be focusing upon how atoms, elements and compounds make up the world around us as well as the effect of forces on an object.
This term will be focusing upon how we can create electrical circuits, the human reproductive system and how we can group elements to examine their properties and reactions.
This term our focus is on waves, how organisms interact in an ecosystem and how we can separate different chemical mixtures.
This term our focus is on the reactions of acids and alkalis and investigating the factors affecting photosynthesis.
This term we will be focusing on a range of investigations looking at how fit and healthy we are.
This term we are focusing on a variety of factors affect our health and understanding how we can stay healthy, the reactions of metals and the effects of forces.
This term we are focusing on diseases and vaccinations, energy in chemical reactions
This term we are focusing on pressure, genes and adaptations and the evolution of the atmosphere.
This term we are focusing on magnetism, materials and the extraction of metals and space science.
This term we are focusing on energy transfers and physics in medicine.
This term we are focusing on a review of the year and a revision plan for the end of year exams.
This term we are focusing on the structure of cells, cell division and the organisation of organ systems.
This term we are focusing on atomic structure, the arrangement of the periodic table and different types of chemical bonding.
This term we are focusing on energy transfers, energy conservation and the effect of heating.
This term we are focusing on health, how we can treat different diseases and investigate how lifestyle impacts on health.
This term we are focusing on a range of chemical calculations and the process of electrolysis.
This term we are focusing on how we produce electricity, how to construct an electrical circuit and use it in the home.
This term we are focusing on the particle theory of matter and radioactive decay.
This term we are focusing on respiration, how the hormonal and nervous systems control the body as well as the ideas behind variation and evolution.
This term we are focusing on we can speed up chemical reactions and the uses of crude oil in everyday life.
This term we are focusing on the properties of different types of wave, the electromagnetic spectrum and electromagnetism.
This term we are focusing on how we use the Earth’s resources and their impact on changes in our atmosphere.
This term we are focusing on organisms are adapted to different ecosystems and the effect of humans on biodiversity.
This term we are focusing on how to speed up a chemical reaction, hydrocarbons and their uses, radioactivity and the properties of waves.
This term we are focusing on electromagnetic waves, adaptations, human impact on ecosystems and chemical analysis.
This term we are focusing on the Earth’s atmosphere and resources
This term we are focusing on forces, motion and electromagnetism.
Be sure to register on Seneca learning for some excellent revision activities
Wykham Park Academy is now one of Seneca’s Pioneer Schools! We have been chosen because of our drive in developing effective teaching and learning strategies. Seneca is a completely free homework and revision platform based on cognitive sciences. It has had great impact on our students and we are excited to be directly involved in improving the platform even further by sharing feedback, trialling new features, and helping out with research studies. We are also a hub for Seneca in Banbury, so get in touch if you’d like to know more!
