Academic year 2022-23

At Wykham Park our science course for years 7 and 8 sparks students’ curiosity in science, whilst gradually building the maths, literacy, practical, and enquiry skills needed for progression to AQA GCSE Science. Support and extension is provided to help students achieve and exceed in their science education.

What are we studying?

YEAR 7

TERM 1
In term 1 will be focusing upon some of the fundamental ideas of science. We will be looking at cells, organ systems and atoms as well as developing our scientific practical skills.

TERM 2
This term we will be focusing upon where our energy comes from, how atoms, elements, compounds make up the world around and the human reproductive system us as well as the effect of forces on an object.

TERM 3
This term will be focusing upon how we can create electrical circuits, how we can group elements to examine their properties and reactions and how we can separate different chemical mixtures.

TERM 4
This term our focus is on a range of investigations looking at how fit and healthy we are and waves.

TERM 5
This term our focus is on the reactions of acids and alkalis.

TERM 6
This term we will be focusing on light, how organisms interact in an ecosystem and investigating the factors affecting photosynthesis.

YEAR 8

TERM 1
This term we are focusing on a variety of factors affect our health and understanding, how we can stay healthy, diseases and vaccinations, the reactions of metals and space.

TERM 2
This term we are focusing on respiration, the effects of forces and the evolution of the atmosphere.

TERM 3
This term we are focusing on energy in chemical reactions.

TERM 4
This term we are focusing on pressure and magnetism.

TERM 5
This term we are focusing on genes and adaptations and energy transfers.

TERM 6
This term we are focusing on materials, physics in medicine and the extraction of metals.

YEAR 9

TERM 1
This term we are focusing on the structure of cells, cell division and the organisation of organ systems.

TERM 2
This term we are focusing on atomic structure, the arrangement of the periodic table and different types of chemical bonding.

TERM 3
This term we are focusing on energy transfers, energy conservation, the effect of heating and organisation of living things.

TERM 4
This term we are focusing on chemical changes and electrolysis.

TERM 5
This term we are focusing on how we produce electricity, how to construct an electrical circuit and use it in the home and energy changes in a chemical reaction.

TERM 6
This term we are focusing on communicable diseases, preventing disease and non-communicable diseases.

YEAR 10

TERM 1
This term we are focusing on the particle theory of matter and radioactive decay, energy changes in chemical reactions and the human nervous system.

TERM 2
This term we are focusing on how the hormonal and nervous systems control the body as well as wave properties, electromagnetic radiation and rates of chemical reactions.

TERM 3
This term we are focusing on reproduction, the uses of crude oil in everyday life and chemical analysis.

TERM 4
This term we are focusing on electromagnetism, variation, genetics and evolution.

TERM 5
This term we are focusing on adaptation, interdependence and competition.

TERM 6
This term we are focusing on organisms are adapted to different ecosystems and the effect of humans on biodiversity, our atmosphere and the Earth’s resources.

YEAR 11

TERM 1
This term we are focusing on forces and motion.

TERM 2
This term we are focusing preparing for our GCSE exams by revising a range of topics identified through the work done in class. Biweekly assessments will be used to allow exam practice and identify topics we need to focus on.

TERM 3
This term we are focusing preparing for our GCSE exams by revising a range of topics identified through the work done in class. Biweekly assessments will be used to allow exam practice and identify topics we need to focus on.

TERM 4
This term we are focusing preparing for our GCSE exams by revising a range of topics identified through the work done in class. Biweekly assessments will be used to allow exam practice and identify topics we need to focus on.
